What is the Indian Coast guard: The Indian Coast Guard is also a Defense body controlled or regulated under the Ministry of Defense. Indian Coast Guard is Appointed at Coastal region of India, there is mainly 5 coastal region at which coast guard give their service, namely;  North-West (Gandhi Nagar), West (Mumbai), east (Chennai), North-East (Kolkata) and Adman-Nikobar Island (Port Blair). It is the feeder Force of the Indian Navy. Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy both can work together for some Joint Operations. you can say that it is an unofficial part of the Indian Navy.

Indian Coast Guard: Officer (Assistant Commandant)

Indian Coast Guard: General Duty Officer

General Duty Officers has the Responsibility to Command the Ship, Safety of all the personnel in the Sea, it well trained to Operate the Weapons, Sensors, and different kinds of Equipment on Seaboard. General duty branch officers are under in Naval Oriental Course at INA.

General Duty Officer: Training

  • A 22-week training program held in Ezhimala in Kerala.
  • Selected candidates go for further training for 24 weeks as Phase one and 16 weeks as phase 2 for afloat training.
  • These processes are common for all Officer level entry in Coast Guard.
  • After this selected officers go for further training that is seamanship Board exam for accessing their Skills.
  • At last, after this selected officers need to qualify a technical course which is of 43 weeks and finally after certification officers appointed on CG Ship for 6 months.

General Duty Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: Graduation from any Recognize University or Graduation in Engineering  (B.tech/BE) At least 60% in CGPA
  • Age: 20 to 24 year
  • Only Male Candidate

Indian Coast Guard: General Duty (P/N) Officer

General Duty Pilot Branch is also Officer rank service has the responsibility of Surveillance through Aircraft, take orders from groud for various task and much more

General Duty (P/N) Officer: Training

  • For this, a watch kipping certification is needed and after this certification, the pilot branch officer called for further training in Delhi for aviation medical.
  • This training held in Air force Academy and civil flying Academy for 6 months.
  • After certification officer appointed as a flying officer and awarded with wings.

General Duty (P/N) Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: Math and Physics as Intermediate Subject and Graduation (B.Sc.) or Above with 60% aggregate in Math and Physics
  • Age: 18 to 24 year
  • Only Male Candidate

Indian Coast Guard: Technical Branch Officer

Technical Officers are responsible for the operation of advanced technology and sensor systems, Weapons, and machinary onboard Coast Guard vessels and aircraft, as well as on Coastal Banks installations. They also command the maintenance wings of the force.

Technical Branch Officer: Training

  • Candidate wants to join Coast guard as a Technical officer, need to join the Naval Orientation course which held or organize on INS Shivaji, INS Valsura for Electrical Engineering branch.
  • This course duration maybe 105 to 110 weeks after this Certification, Watchkeeping certification is mandatory as General Duty (P/N) Branch. After 4 years of service, the Technical branch officer can be promoted to Aviation technical course.

Technical Branch Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: At least 60% marks in 12th standard in Physics and maths. Candidate must have graduation with 60% Aggregate, from AICTE Approved College or University.
    Branch for Engineering (NavalArchitect/ME/Marin/Automobile/
    Mechatronics/Industrial and Production/Metallurgy/Design
    /Aeronautical/Aerospace)
    Branch for Electrical (EE/Electronics and telecommunication/

The woman can also apply for Technical and General Duty Through Short ServiceAppinment, For short term service in the coast guard. their job role is the same as a technical officer.

SSA (Woman) officer: Training

Her training session will be of 70 weeks. This is also a Naval Orientation Course. After the selection Candidate will be called GD or Technical Officer. The service tenure of the SSA is for 8 years that can be extended to 10 years and further expandable up to 14 years.

SSA (Woman) Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: Graduation from any Recognize University or Graduation in Engineering  (B.tech/BE) At least 60% in CGPA
  • Age: 20 to 24 year
  • Only Female Candidate

Indian Coast Guard: Commercial Pilot license Officer

Those candidates, who have a Commercial Pilot license can also apply for the Position of Pilot as Short Service appointment. Selected candidates Appointed as Pilot in Airwing in under the Indian Coast Guard as Assistant commandant.

Commercial Pilot license Officer: Training

A 22 weeks Naval Orientation course at INA Ezhimala after this, 51 weeks CG ops courses/SAMCO/Dornier conversion (Stage II) at CGTC (K), SFNA, IAF Academy and Rajali.

Commercial Pilot license Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: Minimum Educational Qualification 12th in Science with 60% in Maths and Physics. Candidate should Have a Current Commercial Pilot Valid Licence Validate by Director General of Civil Aviation.
  • Age: 18 to 24 year
  • Both Man and Woman can Apply

Indian Coast Guard: Law Officer

Law Officers act as legal advisers to their respective commanders. They represent the Indian Coast Guard in legal actions filed by or against the organization. They also perform the duties of trial law officers in Coast Guard courts, convened to try delinquent Coast Guard personnel.

Indian Coast Guard Law Officer: Eligibility

  • Education: 3-year degree in Law after Graduation /  Year Degree in law After 12th At least 60% marks in Aggregate.
  • Age: 20 to 29 year
  • Both Man and Woman Can Apply

Indian Coast Guard: Officer Selection process

All the officer rank services process through the Indian Coast Guard, there is two Stages of the examination (Preliminary and FSB). FSB is the Final Selection board Candidate must have appeared to clarify its Physical Efficiency Test. FSB consist of Medical test in the military hospital. After these Examination candidates appointed to their respective branches.

Officer Selection Process: Prelims Exam

  • All the applications of candidates will found under the requirement guidelines will be called for the Preliminary Selection.
  • This Selection examination will be the same as SSB of the military.
  • It Consists of Mental Ability Test, Cognitive Aptitude test, Picture Perception, and discussion test (PP&DT).
  • All these tests will conduct at the examination center.

Officer Selection Process: FSB Exam

  • FSB is Final Selection Board, It consists Personality test, Psychology test, Group talk, and Interview at the FSB center.
  • After this Test Selected candidate deputed to Medical test, this test is compulsory to the entire branches.
  • A CPSS test organizes at the time of FSB at the center for the Pilot branch candidate to check its Flight Test.

Indian Coast Guard: Physical Standard

The entire candidate will go through a medical test and a Physical standard guideline for the Candidates as follows.

  • Height: Assistant Commandant (GD)-157 cm, Assistant Commandant (Pilot)- 162.5 Cm and Leg length minimum 99 cm,
  • Weight: Weight according to Height and Age for all branches.
  • Chest: Well proportionate with 5cm of Expansion Only for Male.

Indian Coast Guard: Enrolled Personnel

The Indian coast guard has below officer rank posts called Enrolled personnel and they serve as Navik (Sailor) or Yantrik (Technician) let’s know a little bit about it.

Navik may further serve in the General-Duty or Domestic branches. The General-Duty Navik serves as sailors, has the responsibility of weapons systems operators, communication specialists, divers, specific maritime or aviation support roles, etc… Domestic branch Navik serves in roles such as stewards, cooks, etc. onboard Coast Guard vessels.

Navik (Sailor) General Duty: Training

  • The training conduct at INS Chilka for 24 to 29 weeks respectively.
  • After this Technical training held in the Naval institute of Aviation technology.

Navik (Sailor) Domestic Branch: Training

For domestic Branch 15 weeks of Training on INS Chilka and 3 month Afloat training after these 6 months of core Branch training at INS Hamla Mumbai.

Indian Coast Guard: Yantrik (Technician)

Yantrik is responsible for operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical or aeronautical equipment and systems onboard the Coast Guard vessels and aircraft.

Yantrik (Technician): Training

The training conduct at INS Chilka for 24 to 29 weeks respectively. After the course, Yantriks go for further training of Afloat training on CG Ships for 3 months. After this Technical training held in the Naval institute of Aviation technology.

Navik (Sailor) & Yantrik (Technician): Selection Procedure

  • These are Two-Stage of the examination for the Navik General Duty and Commercial Duty.
  • Stage 1 is a written test and Stage-2 is PFT (Physical fitness test), and after these tests, the candidate will depute to a Medical test that is compulsory to the entire candidate.
  • Stage 1:  it is an online written exam and all the questions are MCQ types Covering the Syllabus of 10+2 Standard. After stage one, selected candidates will depute to Stage 2 that is PFT.
  • Stage 2: It is PFT (Physical Fitness Test) for all the candidates who selected in Stage 1, to check the physical fitness of the candidates. PFT consists of-
    (1.) Run 1.6 km in 7 min
    (2.) 20 Squat ups (uthak , bethak) and 10 push up
